Mark Batson

Owner / Designer

Wilmington native, Mark Batson, studied at UNCW. He earned his BA in History, which is the study of the past and how it relates to people. Relating to people is what the business of custom home building is all about. Mark applies lessons from his past experiences and intuitively guides his clients through the design/build process to create something special. He sees his purpose being to help families imagine how their lives could be, actualized into real environments, improving their lives through better living. Winner of multiple awards and recognition, Mark has found that cultivating long-term relationships with both clients and colleagues is the true reward.

As leader, Mark’s role is to instill a sensibility about how things should be done. He believes in having a warrior’s spirit, a servant’s heart, and a fun loving atmosphere. His promise to the client is to never compromise quality or coolness.

Mark lives in Wrightsville Beach with his family of five, where his young children keep him busy. Occasionally, he’ll get opportunities for fun, like flying, surfing, spearfishing and other watersports. Overall he wants to leave a legacy that has a positive impact on himself, his family, and his community.

Stephanie Schauer

Controller

Stephanie Schauer has 6+ years of experience in the construction and management arena, having successfully managed a flooring store in Wisconsin. Recently, Stephanie has decided to go back to school to obtain here Bachelors of Science in Accounting.
Stephanie‘s primary goal is to offer support to the clients and to the team of Tongue & Groove. Stephanie is originally from Wisconsin, but moved to Wilmington, North Carolina with her Daughter Cetera and her fury babies. Stephanie spends any free time she has exploring her new surroundings with her daughter.

Bridgett Mazer

Interior Designer

Making things easy and fun, Bridgett guides our clients through the selections for their project. She loves to imagine with our clients, helping to create the perfect living environment for them. With over 14 years as an interior design expert, Bridgett specializes in ‘comfortable elegance’ aesthetic and clean, modern design. In addition to an Interior Design Associate Degree, she has a Bachelor of Arts from UNCW in Education and a Minor in Psychology. She is a member of ASID and CCASID. She represents over 100 furniture, lighting, window treatments and accessory lines, equivalent to the same buying power as a retail store. Bridgett has been the head designer for several planned communities, designing for homeowners as well as design for clubhouses and pools. Her work has been featured in notable publications. Bridgett resides in Wrightsville Beach with her husband and two young children.

Maggie Love Pinson

Sales Manager

Maggie was born and raised in Burlington, North Carolina. She moved to Los Angeles, CA, for design school at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to study Merchandise Product Development in 2008. In addition to her academic history in design, she has also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from UNCG. As someone who loves to absorb new knowledge and education, Maggie has continued to learn on the job about home sales, marketing, design and more.

Between design school and getting a Bachelor’s Degree, Maggie has gained vast sales and marketing experience that she has utilized in her professional endeavors. Previously, as a design coordinator with home staging expertise and background, she also learned a lot about the local real estate and construction market, giving her the drive to be closer in touch with buyers during their home buying and building adventures. Maggie strives to create a friendly and exciting experience for everyone that walks through our doors. Having the opportunity to work with our clients and local real estate professionals to build thriving relationships, is what makes her most eager to come in to work every day.

When Maggie is not working with clients and our community, she is relaxing at home in mid-town Wilmington or enjoying the beach with her daughter, Lou, and husband, Will.

Annie Harrell

Architectural Designer and Drafter

Annie, a Wilmington native, graduated from CFCC in 2015 with both an A.A.S in Architecture and Interior Design. She is creative with a keen attention to detail, obsession with quality, love for architectural details, and the belief that great designs begin with understanding a client’s needs and expectations. Prior to joining the Tongue and Groove team in August of 2017, she began her career in Charlotte, NC at a renowned architecture firm, where she gained valuable knowledge and experience in high-end custom residential design and renovations. Also during this time, she partnered as a key designer in numerous commercial projects in various states throughout the U.S. While her interests are in all aspects of architecture and interior design, her passion and inspiration lie in designing the interior of a project and bringing reality to a client’s dreams. In her spare time, Annie enjoys spending time with her family, as well as planning exciting travels for new experiences and inspiration. She hopes to work toward earning her NCIDQ license in the future.

Amber Daniels

Intern

Amber moved from her hometown of Wake Forest, NC to Wilmington in August of 2015 to attend college at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She is currently working toward her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with two concentrations in Marketing Strategy and Human Resource Management. She hopes to attend Law School to become a family lawyer after she graduates from UNCW in 2019.

Prior to attending college, Amber worked with the YMCA since she was 15. She held a variety of positions such as office manager at an after-school program and was an overnight summer camp counselor for 3 summers! She also serves as her Sororities Chapter Vice President at UNC- Wilmington.

Rachael Ward

Marketing Manager

Born and raised in North Carolina, Rachael moved to Wilmington in 2012 from Greensboro to attend the University of North Carolina Wilmington to study Business. She graduated in May of 2016 with a Bachelors of Science in Business - Marketing Concentration and a minor in Spanish. During her time at UNCW, she spent a Fall semester studying abroad in Seville, Spain where she further traveled in Europe - gaining insight into the various cultures and experiences. After graduation, Rachael transitioned to a full-time position with T&G from her internship that she started in Junior year of college. She utterly enjoys her personal interactions through Sales, as well as her marketing responsibilities as she gets to channel her creativity and upbeat personality through promotions and designs. From having the opportunity to observe the before and after of projects and witness the progress is just one other thing that she appreciates about working at Tongue and Groove. Always interested in learning more, she applied for the NAHB Young Professional Scholarship Program. Over 100 applications were submitted and she was selected as one of 22 to receive a scholarship to attend the 2017 NAHB International Builders’ Show!

Bill Giffin

Project Supervisor

Bill Giffin started full time for his grandfathers custom home building company, Percy DaMant Inc., in Palo Alto, CA. The company was Union and required completing a 4 year Carpenter apprenticeship program with the Carpenters Union. He worked for his grandfather for 16 years. Bill had worked on many styles of custom homes in the Bay Area, CA., Woodside, Palo Alto, Atherton and Portola Valley, mostly in the 4,000 to 5,000 sf homes and a few commercial buildings.

Bill moved on to a several other companies doing the same type of work and then started with Peninsula Custom Homes Inc. Foster City, CA., as a Lead Carpenter working on Charles Schwab’s home in Atherton, California. A year later he was promoted to Superintendent running multi million dollar projects from 1000 square foot French formal pool houses in Burlingame, CA to 14 thousand square foot projects in Los Altos Hills , CA with multiple buildings and underground wine cave.

Nine years later Bill ventured out on his own as a licensed Contractor and started “Four Generations Custom Homes Inc”. His first project was demolishing a 5,000 SF home and building a guest house, pool house, four car garage with swimming pool, tennis court on a large estate in Atherton, California. Moving on to build a 4,000 SF home in Woodside, California, followed with a 1,000 SF pool house also in Woodside. Bill moved on to work commercial construction with Herman Christensen and Sons, as a construction Project Manager over seeing all the commercial and residential properties, roofs, paving, remodeling, utilities and up grades. The properties included 1,000 apartments at six locations and over four million square feet of commercial office and business spaces at a dozen locations.

After three years, Bill moved on to a Superintendent position for Drew Maran Construction, Palo Alto, CA. to oversee a two year project for a Facebook VP to build a 6,000 SF Leeds Silver sustainable custom home on a hill side in San Mateo, California. When this project was completed he then relocated with his wife to Carolina Beach, NC. In his search for high quality, custom, upscale building he pursued a position as Superintendant with Tongue and Groove in March 2017.

Mitch grew up in a small town in east central, Indiana and moved to Charlottesville, Virginia shortly after high school where he began a career in music. Continuing to pursue his passion, he started a family and took many more opportunities across the country. Along his journey, he decided to broaden his creativity and craftsmanship into the custom construction field. It all began with the position at a custom cabinet and mill shop in Philadelphia which triggered his new passion and curiosity to learn more. Mitch spent 8 years learning all aspects of cabinet making and finishes before he started working as a remodeling carpenter for the next 3 years. In Fall of 2016 he took the opportunity to move to Wilmington, NC and join the team at Tongue & Groove where he has been successfully managing not only projects, but also client relationships.
