Bill Giffin started full time for his grandfathers custom home building company, Percy DaMant Inc., in Palo Alto, CA. The company was Union and required completing a 4 year Carpenter apprenticeship program with the Carpenters Union. He worked for his grandfather for 16 years. Bill had worked on many styles of custom homes in the Bay Area, CA., Woodside, Palo Alto, Atherton and Portola Valley, mostly in the 4,000 to 5,000 sf homes and a few commercial buildings.
Bill moved on to a several other companies doing the same type of work and then started with Peninsula Custom Homes Inc. Foster City, CA., as a Lead Carpenter working on Charles Schwab’s home in Atherton, California. A year later he was promoted to Superintendent running multi million dollar projects from 1000 square foot French formal pool houses in Burlingame, CA to 14 thousand square foot projects in Los Altos Hills , CA with multiple buildings and underground wine cave.
Nine years later Bill ventured out on his own as a licensed Contractor and started “Four Generations Custom Homes Inc”. His first project was demolishing a 5,000 SF home and building a guest house, pool house, four car garage with swimming pool, tennis court on a large estate in Atherton, California. Moving on to build a 4,000 SF home in Woodside, California, followed with a 1,000 SF pool house also in Woodside. Bill moved on to work commercial construction with Herman Christensen and Sons, as a construction Project Manager over seeing all the commercial and residential properties, roofs, paving, remodeling, utilities and up grades. The properties included 1,000 apartments at six locations and over four million square feet of commercial office and business spaces at a dozen locations.
After three years, Bill moved on to a Superintendent position for Drew Maran Construction, Palo Alto, CA. to oversee a two year project for a Facebook VP to build a 6,000 SF Leeds Silver sustainable custom home on a hill side in San Mateo, California. When this project was completed he then relocated with his wife to Carolina Beach, NC. In his search for high quality, custom, upscale building he pursued a position as Superintendant with Tongue and Groove in March 2017.
