CRAFT Architecture + Interiors

Through a collaborative design-build relationship with CRAFT Architecture, PLLC, Tongue & Groove offers clients a streamlined approach to residential design and construction. Architectural services are provided by and contracted through CRAFT Architecture, PLLC, a North Carolina licensed architecture firm, under the direction of Matt Petr. Construction services are provided separately through Tongue & Groove, allowing for close coordination between the design and construction teams throughout the lifecycle of each project.

With a team of three architects and two interior designers, CRAFT seamlessly integrates both disciplines to create cohesive, highly curated spaces. Our Architecture and Interior Design departments collaborate from the outset, ensuring that structural elements and aesthetic details align harmoniously.

This unified approach allows us to consider every aspect of a project, from spatial planning to material selection, resulting in homes and commercial spaces that are both stunning and functional.

Meet Matt Petr, AIA

Founding Principal

Matt believes thoughtful design has the power to elevate everyday life. Guided by the conviction that every site, every client, and every project presents a unique opportunity, Matt approaches architecture as both a craft and a responsibility, creating authentic spaces that enrich the lives of those who experience them.

Prior to founding CRAFT, Matt spent a decade studying under the mentorship of Turan Duda and Jeffrey Paine of Duda|Paine Architects, where he developed a craft-focused approach grounded in clarity of concept, strength of execution, and diligence in detail. Those principles continue to define his work today. As the leader of CRAFT, Matt embraces a true studio architecture model, believing that no two projects should ever be the same. Whether designing a custom residence, a commercial environment, or a community-focused development, he begins by listening. Understanding the unique needs, aspirations, and perspectives of each client is central to his design process and often leads to the most meaningful and enduring solutions.

His days are rooted in collaboration, balancing hand sketching, material exploration, technical coordination, and field engagement with builders and trades. This hands-on involvement ensures that every project is thoughtfully conceived and carefully executed from concept to completion.
