Wrightsville Beach
Known for its crystal blue water, spacious beach, and active island lifestyle.
Wrightsville Beach is a laid-back beach town nestled between salt marshes and barrier islands, with exclusive golf, shops, and dining just a five-minute ride away. Known for its crystal blue water, spacious beaches, and active island lifestyle, this beach town is a highly sought after destination for residents and visitors alike.
First known as The Banks, Wrightsville Beach was a private and uninhabited island for almost 70 years until 1853. The first structure built on the island was the clubhouse for the Carolina Yacht Club, the third oldest yacht club in the United States. Incorporated in 1899, Wrightsville Beach became a turn of the century resort haven, further developing after Railroad and beach trolley modernization.
Original architectural styles consisted mainly of coastal cottages, with some of those historical structures still remaining. New homes represent a range of beach house vernacular, from classic Carolina beach homes with southern architectural influences to contemporary and modernist designs.
Today, Wrightsville Beach remains a popular locale for both tourists and seasonal residents. The town’s population swells significantly during the vacation season and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.
The real estate market in Wrightsville Beach only continues to grow as land is scarce and demand is high. The median home list price is $965,000 (2019). Average home size is approximately 1,500 SF. The market predictions only foresee expansion. Whether investing in a primary home, secondary home, or income producing seasonal rental, the return on Wrightsville Beach investments have extremely solid growth potential.
